Bob Duffy, CEO of the Rochester Business Alliance, will speak at the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce’s final luncheon of the year on Tuesday, December 8.
Duffy is the former mayor of Rochester and he was New York’s lieutenant governor from 2011 to 2014.
The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Irondequoit Public Library, 1290 Titus Avenue. Admission: $20 members; $25 nonmembers. Please RSVP: 234-1884. Guests can pay at the door with a check or with exact amount in cash. BY TIM LOUIS MACALUSO
The County Legislature will vote on County Executive Maggie Brooks’ 2016 budget proposal when it meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The $1.2-billion spending plan holds the county tax rate at $8.99 per $1,000 assessed value. It uses sales and property tax lien sales, as well as some asset sales, to close a budget gap. And it holds county funding for child day care subsidies flat, after decreases in the 2014 and 2015 budgets.
In its analysis of the county budget proposal, the Children’s Agenda found that 53 percent fewer children receive day care subsidies — which are mostly funded by the state — than in 2001.
The budget does not include a requested $50,000 toward a temporary winter shelter for the hard-to-serve homeless people. Democrats could offer an amendment for the funding, but the Republican majority most likely wouldn’t go along with it.
The Legislature meets at the County Office Building, 39 West Main Street.
The Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council will find out on Thursday whether it will get one of three $500 million state economic development awards.
The Finger Lakes and six other regions are competing for the Upstate Revitalization Initiative awards. The Finger Lakes regional council plan and application laid out how officials would use the funding to grow three specific areas in the area: agriculture and food production; optics, photonics, and imaging; and next-generation manufacturing and technology.
If the Finger Lakes council receives the award, it’ll solicit and review project applications.
