WEDNESDAY EVENING UPDATE: Slaughter holding on to slight lead
UPDATE: The next batch of absentee ballots has been counted and Slaughter is, so far, holding on to her lead. As of 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, Slaughter leads Assini 95,289 to 94,638. That's a difference of 651 votes, which means that Slaughter has extended her ever-so-slight lead. Another batch of absentees won't be counted until next week. But the numbers are apparently good enough for Slaughter, who, moments ago, sent out a statement declaring victory.

Late last night, the Monroe County Board of Elections posted the unofficial absentee ballot counts and with those figures considered, Democratic House Representative Louise Slaughter still has a very narrow lead over her Republican challenger, Mark Assini.
After the poll results were reported last night, Slaughter had a 582 vote lead over Assini. She earned 93,053 votes to Assini's 92,471. Slaughter picked up another 1,198 votes from absentee ballots, and Assini grabbed another 1,175 votes. So Slaughter, at this point, has 94,251 total votes to Assini's 93,646.
But a significant number of absentee ballots haven't yet been counted, though how many is unclear. WXXI reports that there were 3,000 to 4,000 absentee ballots, and that only 56 percent have been counted. And the Democrat and Chronicle says that there are 2,800 uncounted ballots.
And over the next few days, some additional absentee ballots may come in. As long as the ballots are postmarked by November 3 and arrive at the board's office by November 12, they'll be counted. Similar rules apply for military ballots, though they'll be counted as long as they are postmarked by November 3 and arrive by November 17.
