WEEK AHEAD: City Council begins its review of Warren's budget

by

Rochester City Council members will begin their review of Mayor Lovely Warren’s 2014-2015 proposed budget. Warren has proposed a $500 million plan that would increase spending by 3.6 percent and includes $5.8 million from increases in taxes and fees. Warren closed a $38 million budget gap by reducing capital expenses and netting a $6 million one-time increase in state aid.

The review will be divided into two sessions. The first session is Tuesday, June 3, and the second will be held on Tuesday, June 10. The way it works is that a chunk of time is set aside for each department to appear before Council for questioning on their individual budgets.

The breakdown for the June 3 meeting:

• 9 a.m. : Council/clerk budget review;
• 9:15 a.m.: Warren administration review;
• 10:50 a.m.: library;
• 11:25 a.m.: Department of Recreation and Youth Services;
• 2:05 p.m.: finance;
• 3:35 p.m.: Department of Environmental Services.
