County Republicans will nominate candidates today
The Monroe County Republican Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 21) to nominate candidates for the 2014 elections. The convention is at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside, 120 East Main Street.
A GOP press release says that the party expects to nominate candidates for the 54th, 55th, 56th, 59th, 61st, and 62nd State Senate Districts; the 133rd, 134th, 135th, 138th, and 139th State Assembly Districts; and Surrogate Court.
The party is expected to endorse incumbents in many of the state races; but it'll back some challengers, too, including Rich Funke in the 55th Senate District contest. Funke is challenging sitting Democrat Ted O'Brien.
The GOP is also expected to endorse Republican Peterson Vazquez in his bid for the 138th Assembly District against incumbent Democrat Harry Bronson, and Republican Peter Lawrence for the 134th Assembly race. Lawrence is running against Democrat Gary Pudup. The 134th Assembly seat is currently vacant.
